Course description

With plenty of gain, this is a tough ultra marathon that should only be undertaken by experienced runners.

Shortly after the start you will climb up through orchards before expansive views of the surrounding hills open up as the trail traverses the mountain side. You’ll soon find yourself in remote backcountry – in this area the ethnic minority settlements are definitely not named on Google maps!

VTM2020-70km-1

After 19km you will head into a section that only the 70k runners will see and which is very much off the beaten path. Here you will ascend to the highest point on the course before running down to CP3.

After joining the 42k runners in the village of Ban Doi (CP5) your tired legs face another major climbing challenge up to CP6 in Pa Khen 2 village. Soon after this you will turn onto another exclusive 70k section including many blossom-filled orchards before you head to the stunning finish line tea plantation.

VTM 70km is a 3-point qualifying race for ITRA, an ITRA National League race, and a 100K UTMB Index race.
